Who we are: A group of Basalt, Colorado citizens encouraging conservation and energy efficiency in our Roaring Fork Valley.


   Caca Loco where biodegradable trash is mixed with sanitation waste to make fertilizer.

Hours: Since it's reached through the South Canyon Landfill, the hours are the same: Mon 6-4, Tues-Fri 8:30 to 4, Sat 9-4, Closed Sunday.

Accepts: Biodegradable trash (wood, lawn clippings, leaves, food packaging, books, paper, anything made originally from wood or plants)

How it works:

Biodegradable trash is dumped Sanitation waste is dumped nearby Wood scraps are ground into a mulch and mixed in Intermediate Product (after a few weeks of biodegrading) Hans Ayers, friendly Compost Chief on site Drop-off truck at South Canyon Landfill for biodegradables (so you don't have to drive up to the actual smelly site) End Product

 Directions: Heading west on Interstate 70 from the Glenwood Springs exit, drive 4.8 miles to the South Canyon exit. There are signs to the landfill, which is up a dirt road about 1.3 miles. The landfill staff will direct you to the Caca Loco drop-off truck or up the hill to the left toward the site.
