Tires

What they're used for: Depending on what markets are doing, they are chipped up to be incorporated into stormwater drainage systems (in lieu of gravel or another material) or shredded and colored to be used for playground materials (instead of pea gravel). They may also be used as cover in landfills and in highway surfacing.

Pitkin Solid Waste Center recycles all tires. Phone 923-3487 for details.

Currently South Canyon Landfill will also take tires for use as shredded cover in their landfill.
