Go Green Basalt

Who we are: A group of Basalt, Colorado citizens encouraging conservation and energy efficiency in our Roaring Fork Valley.

I remember how happy my mother was when plastic baggies and nylon stockings appeared on the scene in the 40s and 50s. "Better living through chemistry" it was called. Over time more and more products were bought cheap, used a bit and then thrown away. The earth is now swimming in all this waste and some of it is toxic.

Time was things didn't get thrown away but reused. Now many of us can't wait to get rid of things. Even those who squirrel things away, once they've made the decision to part with them, want them gone asap. Thus the huge trash cans and huger landfills we're bequeathing to the folks of the future.

Here are some local signs the Roaring Fork Valley is stepping up to the plate on recycling.

Pedestrian Recycle Bin at Rubey Park in Aspen Pedestrian Recycle Bin at Arbaney Park in Basalt Pedestrian Recycle Bin at 4th & Main in Carbondale Recycling Bin for magazines at Carbondale Post Office Recycling Bin for Cell Phones at Clark's Market in Aspen New display at Walmart pushing compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs) Plastic Bag recycling bins at Walmart Glenwood Hot Springs Recycle Bin Aspen Music Tent Bins

Send me digital photos of recycling bins, signs, etc. in your neighborhood and I'll add them to this page. mailto:annmacq@rof.net
