A
"Trash Bash"
on "America Recycles
Day," Nov. 15, 2006. Neighbors brought things they were not sure how to
dispose of--junk mail, styrofoam coolers, magazines, etc.
Dylan Hoffman, the recycling expert from Pitkin County, suggested ways to get
rid of them .
Auto efficiency: Boost technology that reduces pollution and
promotes energy independence.
"Prius Parade"
at our town's annual River Days celebration. Priuses here get 45 to 55 miles per
gallon in contrast to the nation's average car gas mileage of about 25. In 2006, sixteen Priuses and other
hybrid-electrics and biodiesels
"marched." In 2007 there were 12 Priuses plus the BioBus. Need an SUV? Check out savings you can make by buying the right one.

Signs at Big O in Basalt urge people to get more
miles per gallon by having their tires checked and rotated--free!
Efficiency
at home: Replace old-fashioned technologies with new cost-effective ones.
"Change One Bulb"
signs around town promote compact fluorescent bulbs
(CFLs). Our local electric company Holy Cross donates CFLs to be given out
free at Basalt's River Days (50 bulbs in 2006, 100 in 2007).
